Alyssa Bender, RMT, D.O.M.P. has been in practice since 2008. She graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 2008, followed by the Canadian College of Osteopathy in 2017. She is registered with the CMTO and is a member of the OAO. She has continued her education by taking a variety of post-graduate courses, including manual osteopathic treatment for concussions and post-traumatic brain injury. Her approach to therapy focuses on cause-and-effect relationships within the body by exploring long-term repercussions following an injury. She also finds it important to acknowledge how the spiritual, emotional and mental well-being of a person can impact them physically, and vice versa. The principles of osteopathy strongly resonated with her because they gently work with the natural healing mechanisms of the body.
In 1874 when a doctor, Andrew Taylor Still, observed that the body was designed to heal itself, he discovered a new form of therapy to augment this natural healing ability. He called it Osteopathy. Osteopathy uses gentle manipulative techniques to restore proper alignment and function within all body tissues and structures. It is a holistic therapy (all parts and systems of the body being inter-connected) which aims to diagnose and treat physical dysfunction by determining the root cause of pain and imbalance.
